Increasing student engagement through the use of a digital self-assessment tool. The tool that has been adjusted from an existing tool piloted in some Finnish upper secondary schools has several advantages:

  1. create student-centered and student-driven classroom experiences

  2. help students understand the Intended Learning Outcomes of a course

  3. encourage students to familiarize themselves with the assessment criteria

  4. help students take steps towards achieving those ILOs

  5. allow students to track their own progress independently

The tool could aid student empowerment and engagement, help teachers tailor their courses to the needs of students, and, in the long run, provide useful data for curriculum development.
